Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT)
Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, also known as LSVT LOUD®, is an intensive voice therapy programme for people with Parkinson’s disease. It was developed in America following extensive research into effective speech treatments for people with Parkinson’s.
In Parkinson’s, there can be changes in the way a person speaks and speech can sound:
- Quiet
- Monotone (have little intonation in their voice)
- Imprecise and sound as though the person is mumbling their words.
LSVT improves speech intelligibility by increasing voice volume. In turn, vocal intonation and articulation are stimulated and improve as well.
The programme is intensive and includes four therapy sessions per week for four consecutive weeks, with each session lasting about an hour. Additionally, you will undertake home practice every day.
How do I know if it’s right for me?
You can book an initial assessment to determine your suitability for LSVT, after which we will discuss your options and if necessary explore alternative approaches.
