Groups

Parkinson’s Communication Groups

If you have Parkinson’s and are struggling to make yourself understood, there might be a number of reasons including: low voice volume, fast rate of speech, unclear articulation or monotone voice. These characteristics are a common feature of speech in Parkinson’s, but they can usually improve with therapy.

As well as offering therapy on a one-to-one basis,  we run weekly communication skills groups.  Groups are held in Stafford, Lichfield, North Staffordshire. No previous speech and language therapy experience is needed to join. The groups are small (usually around 6 – 8 people in each group).

some groups are help via Zoom and some are face-to-face. All last for about an hour and new faces are always welcome. You will be engaged in exercises to help improve your speech awareness, learn strategies to speak louder and carry out tasks between sessions to stimulate the thinking part of your brain.

So, if you want to improve your voice and have fun, contact us at Speakmore or contact your local Stafford, Chase, Lichfield or North Staffs branch of the Parkinson’s UK Society –  see https://www.parkinsons.org.uk for more details.
